MESSAGE FROM OUR FOOD STORAGE SPECIALIST

March 2013

Dear Ward Members:

The First Presidency of the church has said:  “Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use.  His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience.  He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing”  (D & C 109:8) so that should adversity come, we may care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others.”    I am very interested in getting my family better prepared and helping you to be prepared also.  Being prepared brings peace.  “If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear” ( D & C 38:30 )”  and He has promised to help us as we try to obey His commandments.  “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded for I know that the Lord giveth no commandment unto the children of men save He shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.
 ( 1 Nephi 3:7)

So let's BEGIN our “MISSION POSSIBLE!” Your assignment for the month of March if you  choose to accept:

·         Get a jump on spring cleaning and clean out your food storage area.  Throw away anything that needs to be discarded …..including too-old fruit.  Wash the jars and get them ready for this year's harvest..

·         Take inventory.......involve the children and youth.  Let them count cans and make lists of exactly what you have.

·         Each time you go grocery shopping  let each child choose a food storage item of  THEIR choice (perhaps instead of a treat) and watch their excitement grow as they get to contribute to this important family project.

·         Take advantage of the case lot sales currently going on.

·         Plan ahead for April.....  during General Conference weekend  (April 6 & 7)  clean out your 72 hr kits, change out clothes, food etc.

·         AND..... as the snow melts it is time to get garden plots ready for planting.  (Or if you don't have a garden PLOT how about some garden POTS?)  Can't you just taste those great Utah home grown tomatoes? )

Let's get started.  Let's obey.  Let's get prepared!

Love,

Penny Belton
North Ogden 3rd Ward Food Storage Specialist
